ALVIS: Superpeer Semantic Search Engine
نویسندگان
چکیده
Alvis is a research project in the design, use and interoperability of topic-specific search engines with the goal of developing an open source prototype of a peer-to-peer, semantic-based search engine. Existing search engines provide poor foundations for semanticbased web operations, and are becoming monopolies, distorting the entire information landscape. Our approach is not the traditional Semantic Web approach with coded metadata, but rather an engine that can build on content through semi-automatic analysis.

The ALVIS Document Model for a Semantic Search Engine
ALVIS researches the design, use and interoperability of topic-specific search engines with the goal of developing an open source prototype of a peer-to-peer, semantic-based search engine. Our approach is not the traditional Semantic Web approach with coded meta-data, but rather an engine that can build on content through semi-automatic analysis. This paper describes the ALVIS document processi...
متن کاملThe ALVIS Format for Linguistically Annotated Documents
The paper describes the ALVIS annotation format and discusses the problems that we encountered for the indexing of large collections of documents for topic specific search engines. This paper is exemplified on the biological domain and on MedLine abstracts, as developing a specialized search engine for biologist is one of the ALVIS case studies. The ALVIS principle for linguistic annotations is...
متن کاملA Robust Linguistic Platform for Efficient and Domain specific Web Content Analysis
Web semantic access in specific domains calls for specialized search engines with enhanced semantic querying and indexing capacities, which pertain both to information retrieval (IR) and to information extraction (IE). A rich linguistic analysis is required either to identify the relevant semantic units to index and weight them according to linguistic specific statistical distribution, or as th...
متن کاملQuery expansion based on relevance feedback and latent semantic analysis
Web search engines are one of the most popular tools on the Internet which are widely-used by expert and novice users. Constructing an adequate query which represents the best specification of users’ information need to the search engine is an important concern of web users. Query expansion is a way to reduce this concern and increase user satisfaction. In this paper, a new method of query expa...
متن کاملSemantic Annotation in the Alvis Project
In semantic search engines, the user query language includes constraints on the semantic types and relations instead of boolean constraints on simple words. For instance, the query Author=person:Crick and Author=person:Watson and Paper_title=title:A structure of DNA and Publication_date=date:1953 means that the user looks for documents including descriptions of a paper by Watson and Crick, publ...
